Charles Martin Mhone is the Managing Partner of the firm, where he leads with a commitment to excellence in legal practice. With extensive experience in international arbitration, commercial law, and corporate law, Charles brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the firm.
Under his leadership, Maxson Arnold & Associates has become known for its ability to navigate clients through intricate legal challenges with clarity and precision. Before his current role, Charles served as a Legal Associate at JB Suzi & Company, where he developed a strong foundation in dispute resolution.
Beyond his professional practice, Charles is a prominent figure in the international arbitration community in Malawi and Southern Africa. He is Malawi’s Ambassador for the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators’ Young Members Group (CIArb YMG) for the 2022-2026 term and is instrumental in establishing the Malawi International Commercial Arbitration Centre. His influence extends to his roles as Co-Chair for one of the Planning Committees of the Johannesburg Arbitration Week 2024 and as an International Commercial Arbitration Trainer for the SADC Lawyers Association.
Charles is dedicated to continuous professional development, earning several certifications in international arbitration from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. His professional memberships include the Malawi Law Society, the African Arbitration Association (AfAA), and the Young AFSA (Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa’ young members group), among others.
In addition to his legal practice, Charles served as the Vice Board Chairperson for the National Food Reserve Agency from September 2020 to September 2022. He is also a board member of the Southern Region Water Board, where he was privileged to be elected as the Chairperson of the Establishments and Operations Committee. Additionally, he serves as a board member of the Catholic Health Commission, the Company Secretary for Dream Financial Services Ltd, a Governor for the Catholic Archdiocese of Lilongwe’s Likuni Press and Publishing House, and a board member of the Wisdom Centre Private School, a Catholic School under Andrea Kaggwa Parish in Lilongwe.
